I wrote High Warp for someone who loves all of Star Trek , from the Original Series , through Strange New Worlds , someone who sees Star Trek the way I do, as imaginative, original art that somehow manages to be entertaining, on some level. I wrote it with the intent to tell a story, nothing more. I hadn't conceived High Warp as a parody, or any kind of commentary, but I realize it is, regardless of what I intended. I won't advertise it as such, because a label like "parody" carries a negative connotation, broad, goofy comedy like Mad Magazine , SNL and SCTV sketches, films like Airplane! and Not Another Teen Movie . High Warp isn't that kind of parody. It's more like Mark Twain, taking the elements of something familiar, and showing them in an unexpected light. High Warp is a reflection on Star Trek itself, and on twentieth-century American culture, everything from King Kong to Eraserhead to Kryptonians. Unlike anything the Star Trek universe would, or could produce, High Warp puts Star Trek into the context of other popular entertainment in a way that could never be done with a TV show or a movie, where competing corporate profit centers would complicate that sort of mixed content. High Warp is meant to be fun, like the Original Series was fun, when Star Trek didn't take itself too seriously, and people driving the ship, like Gene Roddenberry, Gene L. Coon, D.C. Fontana, and Leonard Nimoy, found ways to make the concept interesting, entertaining, and relevant. A disclaimer: though it is inspired by Star Trek , High Warp is in no way sanctioned, approved, or in any way associated with Paramount, Viacom, CBS, or any other entities or organizations who own the rights to Star Trek , or any of its trademarks, copyrights, or legally protected merchandise rights. There is some mild sexual content in High Warp , and adult language, so if you don't like that kind of thing, High Warp isn't for you.
