High Warp is well-written. It isn't fan fiction, which is usually about romantic affairs between crew-mates, and it isn't like "official" Star Trek novels , many of which are clumsy third-person narratives, with characters who neither speak nor act like their counterparts in Star Trek shows. High Warp is faithful to canon, and its prose flows more like a literary work. The author's experience as a playwright brings Voyager and TNG characters to life through an unique narrative structure, with a different narrator for each chapter. Part One begins shortly before Admiral Janeway's arrival in the delta quadrant. A misanthropic time traveler, the inventor of a revolutionary warp drive meets the Talosians, who help him avert temporal catastrophe by preventing the Kelvin timeline, and returning Voyager to the Terran System. He assists Janeway and Picard as they build a new fleet, and devise strategies to eradicate the Borg. High Warp pays homage to the idealism of Star Trek , bridging the chasm between owners of the franchise and its most devoted fans, which seems to widen with every new release. Written in a spirit of fun, like The Original Series, High Warp incorporates elements from TOS , TNG , Voyager , Enterprise , and twentieth-century American culture. High Warp has adult language and situations, violence, and non-explicit sexual content. If this sort of material offends your sensibilities, High Warp isn't for you.
