This second edition is approximately 50% larger than the first edition. There are over 525 equations, 400 figures, and 90 tables to guide the filter designer. This version is FULL COLOR; the less expensive second edition is in black and white. This book concentrates on the design, construction, and alignment of kilowatt-level filters intended for use in the High Frequency range. Typical applications are in amateur radio where two transmitters operate in tandem, a mode called SO2R - Single Operator Two Radio. The technical design details are applicable, however, to HF high power design in general. Many of the design methods apply to much higher frequencies as well, the difference being how the filter elements are realized at these other frequencies. The specifics of filter building blocks are addressed with attention given to those attributes important to high power operation. Most importantly, the text outlines multiple circuit methods, termed transforms, that make construction of these filters possible using much less expensive MLCCs - multi-layer ceramic chip capacitors. Three complete design examples are included; 7 MHz, 14 MHz, and 21 MHz. This book comes in two different formats: B&W and Color hardbound. Select "See All Formats". The color versions use higher quality paper that significantly improves the readability of all text and equations, as well as the figures and pictures. Two-thirds of the book is for the advanced amateur interested in DIY high power design. The final third of the book is relegated to the more advanced topics which, in most cases, require higher level mathematics or an engineering background. Readers wanting more complete technical details as well as exposure to more advanced methods will find that the second edition may be more suitable for them. The second edition has an expanded treatment of JK inverters, a third filter design for 14 MHz, and five new chapters covering shielding and isolation, triplexers, low-power applications, and selected stopband zero insertion.
