Here is a prime verse in Isaiah - He says two things are hurting you.One is your iniquity.Other is your sins.
"SO THAT HE WILL NOT HEAR" - If God does not hear, you have a big problem because if He does not hear, He cannot answer. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity. Now, the word defiled there in Hebrew literally means to be stained.

Anyone would know you get blood on your clothing, and it would leave a stain. He says here that your hands are stained with blood. In other words, some sins have left a stain upon your hand. Sin leaves a stain.
Repentance will not remove that stain.
