Martha Jacobson Bauer was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, October 1913. There, at age seventeen, Joanne Modder led her to the Lord in Peniel Tabernacle where Faith Home ministries deeply influenced her life After graduating from North Central Bible College in 1936 she spent seven years helping Pastors R. Sharnick, R. Spencer and E. Olson pioneer the Racine Assembly of God. Also during this time she was with her sister, now Marian Savich, conducted D.V.B.S.s throughout Wisconsin. They ministered together with Mathilda Birkland for one year on the Ojibwa Indian Reservation at Couderay until Mathilda and Martha left for Nigeria in 1945.
