Enter a world where men - supposedly - rule and women aren't usually welcome; Ms. Szillagyi shows us the real truth behind the construction business... the good, the bad, and the hilarious. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I came across this book while doing research for my company about sheet metal. Once I picked it up I had trouble putting it down, even for the drive home! Beth really gives her reader an indepth look into the life of a young woman living in a mans world. I found the book to be empowering, showing women everywhere that they don't always have to follow the rules. It truely is a tale of perserverance and triumph. I strongly recommend this book to anyone, especially women in male dominated trades.
Interesting read for men and women alike

Heroine: solid Despite the hard work real-life "Rosie the Riveters" did on the home front in WWII, women still had a long way to go in gaining equality in and out of the traditionally "all-male" workplace. "Hey Lady" is based on one woman's experiences as an apprentice sheet metal worker in the early 1980s, and explains with a refreshing candor exactly what it was like to forge the way for other women in the blue-collar workforce. What worked for me: While some of the technical jargon sailed over my head, the plot was engaging enough to keep me turning the pages. I was rooting for Val all the way! What didn't work for me: The writing in a few sections felt less polished than in the rest of the story, but other than that it was smooth reading. Overall: This was an interesting glimpse into the world of construction, and Ms. Szillagyi deftly infused its cold, harsh reality with warmth and humor. I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in gender studies. Warning: There is coarse language in this book.
