HE'S MISSING... FIND HIMThis book's narrative revolves around two real individuals: renowned film composer Jerry Goldsmith and a musician named Uan Rasey. As a child, Rasey contracted polio. During his convalescence, Rasey teaches himself to play the trumpet. By the time he was an adult, Rasey's trumpet skills had become so remarkable that MGM hired him as the principal trumpet player in their studio orchestra. He held this position from the late 1940s until his retirement in the early 1970s. In 1974, Goldsmith was hired to compose the score for the Paramount movie Chinatown, but was given only 10 days to complete it. From the outset, Goldsmith decided to feature a solo trumpet throughout the score. Goldsmith knew he had to get the best trumpet player available, and for him, that meant Uan Rasey. This book takes the above facts and creates a fictional story around them. The fictional problem is that Mr. Rasey has disappeared, and no one knows his whereabouts or if he is even still alive. Goldsmith orders his young assistant, Jim Swanson, to find Mr. Rasey and convince him to play solo trumpet in the recording sessions. Goldsmith promises to fire Swanson if he fails either task. Does Swanson find Mr. Rasey, and is he able to convince Mr. Rasey to return to the recording studio one final time?
