This book is about heroes. Haitian heroes. American heroes and others. They were doctors, school teachers, university professors, students, social workers among others, and they stood each in their particular areas, sometimes not knowing what the other was doing, sometimes unaware that there was another person who shared the same drive, the same motivation: relieving unbearable suffering. From that nightmarish and near-apocalyptic event of January 12, 2010, I found some noble souls who did a fantastic job of helping their fellow human beings. A decade later, I am republishing their stories, a tribute to those who did so much. My motivation in publishing the book stems also from the words of John F. Kennedy: "A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers."
