The text is well written, with copious references in each chapter to other, more indepth sources. The illustrations are also carefully chosen. Of necessity, in spanning 500 years across the globe, much has to be abbreviated. But the key historic driving forces are given in enough detail for the student to understand these issues. Like the colonisation of the Americas by the Europeans. Or the drive for female suffrage in Britain and the United States. Or the confluence of events that led to the Great War and the Second World War. Followed by the decolonisation throughout the world.
