Something for older readers, heartfelt, sweet and nice

This is a tradtional sweet romance aimed at the older market and with a bit of role reversal. Morgan is a successful city business woman who has decided to retire to the country. Alistair Brown is a country vet with no ambition except to carry on doing what he is doing and raise his twin pre-teen daughters. The twins decide that Morgan is just the woman for their father - but the feeling is not automatically returned by their father - or by Morgan. Morgan is recovering from a broken heart - it seems she is too tough for most men to handle and has only ever had one serious relationship - Alistair was married once but his wife was too ambitious for him and ran off to 'find herself' in Spain. Finding a rich husband along the way. Now she wants the girls to come and life with her again. Morgan has problems of her own. Despite being a successful hard-nosed business man she can't escape from her past - at school she had felt unsuccessful next to the glamorous Bethany - now Bethany wants to visit her and see the fiance who Morgan hinted at. It seems if Alistair and Morgan get together they might be able to see off their problems - Bethany and Alistair's ex-wife. The story is not wildly convincing - not that these romances need to be too convincing - but the Bethany ex-wife problem is fairly minor. Morgan is invited to join the school board but that seems to fizzle out and nothing is made of it. In fact there seem to be a lot of plot devices which don't really go anywhere. I really liked the fact that this was a much older woman and I could relate to her, and her past - I mean even though you are successful in one area your life doesn't mean that you can deal with the emotional side. I just felt it was a bit unconvincing. Jessica Hart writes great ditzy heroines but I suppose not all heroines can be stumbling accident-prone disaster areas. I never really felt attached to Alistair as a hero either though. He seemed a little unpleasant rather than rough and attractive. A nice gentle read which I enjoyed - but not her best.
