Initially, it was my intent to write a modern day version of Oedipus Rex, something akin to West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet. I wanted a tale that young people could relate to and that would then be a passage to better understanding Oedipus Rex. To this end, I included many of the key symbols of Oedipus Rex and several classical allusions. What I found, however, was that this story resonated with my peers. I was getting feedback that readers could not put it down. Statements were made such as, "I don't know what I would do." Given the moral clime of the past half century, the story is believable. What would you do?
