Dark & thoughtful

I loved this book and how each story kept me hungry for more. With minimal world building up front, Machado was able to create elaborate stories that got increasingly unsettling with every turn. The characters themselves drove the plot in such a way that felt engaging and immersive. Each story touches on different feminist themes with a horrific twist, such as autonomy, hope for humanity, SA, motherhood, and so on. Above all else, each story was written in a unique way that felt new. The first tale regularly included instructions for reading aloud. Another was written in the form of Law & Order SVU episode titles & brief descriptions. I found the writing style to be the best part of the reading experience. This was my first read from this author and I’ve already ordered more!
