I want that strength!

The premise of this book was really intriguing. I have read a few books where there is either a shortage of men, or women have risen up and taken control. What I liked about those, is that they don't immediately flip to act like men had towards women, they have control but also a bit more compassion and don't treat men like slaves and worse (and have the men act completely brainwashed). So while I enjoyed women ruling in Amarra with their superior strength (which I am a total fan of and want!), I had some issues with giving absolutely no rights to men up to and including a death sentence for men who make a woman bleed (including when a woman has intercourse for the first time). I was a complete fan of what the punishment for rapists were though and wish that was real. So, yes, I know this was a dark romantasy with flipped roles and it was mostly fun to see the relationship between Olerra and Sanos blossom after the initial kidnapping and a whole bunch of misunderstandings and different customs, quite hilarious at times, the other bits with how some in the kingdom of Amarra were (just as cruel as men in Brutus), kinda threw me out of the story. I did really enjoy most of it and I was a fan of the ending which was gripping, exciting, and sweet and brought the whole story together. It was a well done audiobook with the narrators, Aiden Snow; Caitlin Davies (one of my favorite narrators!) doing a wonderful job in bringing the characters of Olerra and Sanos to life in this crazy time of changes to both of their countries and finding a balance of power and love to last.
