English summary: This monograph addresses the "Dietrichepik" (epic of Dietrich) of the mid and late Middle Ages and through it the greater part of German heroic epic literature. These texts, their narratives and their poetic layout have for the most part been either hardly studied or not at all. Against this background, this volume attempts to interpret the tales of Dietrich of Bern as specifically literary phenomena. Set against the framework of a discussion of the media-historical position of the Dietrich tales between oral tradition and written documentation, the aim of this study is to outline by means of individual interpretation the evident hermeneutic durability of Dietrich's epic, and to thereby determine the poetic in this most inaccessible genre of narrative literature from medieval and early modern period.
