Heimdall and the nine mothers: Little Norse Legends

By Jeremy Scott Phillips

Before Heimdall guarded the rainbow bridge, he was a radiant child born at the very edge of the world.

Raised by nine mysterious sisters, young Heimdall receives the strength of the earth, the steadiness of the cold sea, and the courage of the wild boar. As he grows, he discovers extraordinary gifts: he can see across tremendous distances, hear the quiet grass growing, and even hear soft wool growing upon a sheep.

But Heimdall soon learns that remarkable gifts are not meant for boasting. They are meant for noticing danger, protecting travelers, and hearing the smallest voice calling for help.

Inspired by surviving passages from the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda, Heimdall and the Nine Mothers weaves authentic Norse traditions into a gentle, beautifully illustrated childhood adventure.

Young readers will discover:

- Heimdall and his nine mysterious mothers
- Bifr st, the magnificent rainbow bridge
- Gjallarhorn, the horn whose voice reaches every realm
- Gulltoppr, Heimdall's golden-maned horse
- Lessons about courage, patience, responsibility, and listening to others
- A helpful historical note separating ancient mythology from reconstructed story scenes

Perfect for children ages 4-8, bedtime reading, family story time, classrooms, and young mythology fans.
