Too often people of faith ignore what the Bible would say to issues of economics. Starting with the Hebrew Scriptures, what does the Bible have to say on issues of economics other than tithing and sacrifices? There is much more to a Scriptural discussion of economic issues than what we normally see in worship services. The prophets spoke often to issues of economic justice, and the Levitical laws had much to say in regard to economic justice from a systemic perspective. This text surveys the scope of the Hebrew Scriptures in terms of their implications and teachings on topics of economics. It touches on the economics of slavery, immigration, distribution of land, fertility cults, sacrifice, generosity, poverty, wealth, and social structures that impact economic issues.Rev. Harbin served several years as a missionary in Mexico and Brazil, where he taught seminary and seminary extension courses. This work follows on the heels of a Biblical survey on issues of immigration, as well as several systematic theology texts and textbook on Narrative Theology and Homiletics. He has served as pastor for several churches in the US, both among English and Spanish speaking congregations. Currently, he is working as a finance professional, as well as continuing ministry through writing, preaching, and teaching opportunities.
