The first of the two novels in this book "Heavy Water" begins with two men travelling together from Azerbaijan to America to undergo a medical procedure - Bay Gasim, a corrupt businessman with a long & violent criminal past, and Aydin, who is being paid by Gasim to donate to him a kidney & part of his liver. Each man on the long flight to Chicago is troubled by his dreams and his fears. Lost in thought, they seek solace from the past to offset the sense of dread they feel in the present as they reflect on the people, events, stories and poems that have shaped their lives and made them who they are & what they are. In the second novel "Reminder of the Evil", Pasha Galbinur deals with the aftermath of the transplant. Is the operation a success? What becomes of Bay Gasim and Aydin? These questions, and others, are addressed as the author explores the mixed feelings of Gasim, his wife, his brother-in-law, and Aydin as he dwells on the faustian pact he has made and the consequences for his family.
