Take a Magic Carpet Ride back to the 60s, to the days of dreamers, schemers, and rock 'n' roll screamers, to discover how "Boss Jock" Gary Arizona got his (less than stellar) start in AM radio. In the spring of 1967, Chuck Moorman is a shy, overweight, and nerdy 16-year-old. He wants to be a Top-40 DJ "in the worst way." He also wants a job, a car, and a girlfriend. Thanks to some lucky breaks, he not only gets a job and a car, but also falls under the guidance of local DJ Ray Waters. Thanks to Ray and his own fortitude, he gets an opportunity to have a weekend rock and roll show on Ray's station, KMFR. But Chuck has a past of public ridicule, thanks to his weight and nerdiness. To hide the fact that it's really him on the air he creates the pseudonym of "Gary Arizona." It's a great idea, and he's a hit Chuck basks in "his" popularity, and wonders if his secret identity is still a good idea. Then, his dream girl suggests she's attracted to the new DJ, forcing Chuck to come up with a plan to reveal his secret and win her over. Will his plan succeed, or will he "lose her-to a summer love?"
