The 1960s was a time when women were still referred to as "ladies", ladies who, generally, managed to be married by the time they were twenty one, and their young husbands not much older. It was a time of promise, the Second World War far enough away to be referred to without anguish, a time when the ambition of a man was to provide for his wife and his family, to own his own home and to work towards a well-deserved retirement. Marriages were for life, it was always hoped. But times were changing, which Natalie would find out when her marriage to Simon begins to fall apart. But then Jack has always kept in touch.
