Look out John Grisham!

Doyle brings an insider's savvy to his tale of courtroom drama, suspense & deceit. His understanding of the legal process of which he writes is obvious. The well-developed characters- phenomenal! His understanding of human nature's need for revenge is nothing short of remarkable! A great read!

Bright new author!

Heartless vividly depicts the danger of the criminal mind and proves that Steve Doyle is among the brightest new authors to hit the thriller scene. With an unusual plot and interesting characters, Heartless leaves you breathless one instance and lets you exhale the next. A great read!

A thrilling mystery - terrific first effort - March 10, 2001

Steve Doyle's first effort as a novelist makes me eager to read his second. I read "Heartless" in a couple of sittings. I couldn't put it down (only getting off the airplane made me stop in the first place). The characters are well introduced and well developed. The book kept me in suspense until the end.Great job, Steve! Your fans want more!

A gripping tale and a great read - I recommend it.

I enjoyed this book! It's a captivating tale that I couldn't put down. The ghastly nature of each victim's death was truly macabre, and clues are cleverly interspersed throughout the book to combine with an intricate plot that keeps you in suspense to the very end. But what I found most refreshing was Doyle's ability to balance the riveting search for the murderer's identity with an engagingly descriptive account of attorney Matt Carter's life in and out of the courtroom. Doyle's relaxed storytelling style draws the reader into the lives of these small-town midwesterners with a comfortable clarity that makes you feel as if you already know each character -- from Katie, the protective mother coping with her busy family life and workaholic husband, right down to Rusty, the faithful family dog.
