Heartless

Good reading but very sad that someone could murder their own wife and child.

A man so heartless he could kill his own baby

In this intriguing book, McPhee tells the story of the murder of a young mother and her child by Neil Entwistle. Neil Entwistle would hardly seem a likely man to commit a murder. Born into a lower class English family, he had struggled to attain a good education, and had succeeded. He was hardly a violent man, and had no apparent criminal interests. On the contrary. He was a shy, handsome man who met his future wife on a boat team at the university they both attended. Once married, "the couple couldn't wait to have a family...Lillian Rose...was an irresistibly happy baby and her parents couldn't help but take endless pictures of her" (p 16). How Neil could end up killing, not only his wife, but this lovely child as well, makes for a chilling tale.

excellent writer

....I live in the town where this tragedy took place....we are a small town and not used to this kind of attention. This author captured the feel of our community and the horror this loss brought upon us. She is an excellent writer- I will look for her other work. This is a must-read.

INTRIGUING

THE AUTHOR IS A LONGTIME FAVORITE OF MINE ON BOSTON'S WTKK (TALK) RADIO STATION AND HER WRITTEN WORD FLOWS JUST LIKE HER ON AIR CONVERSATIONS. SHE'S BEEN A CRIME REPORTER THROUGH MOST OF HER CAREER IN VARIOUS PLACES AND THIS BOOK OFFERS MUCH BEHIND-THE-SCENES INFORMATION THAT WASN'T IN THE NEWSPAPERS AT THE TIME OF THIS CRIME AND/OR DURING THE TRIAL. I READ IT SOON AFTER ITS PUBLCATION, DURING THE TRIAL. THE AUTHOR'S CONNECTION IN THE WORLD OF LAW ENFORCEMENT HELD HER IN GOOD STEAD AND THIS RINGS WITH AUTHENTICITY. SHE KNOWS GREATER BOSTON EXTREMELY WELL BUT SOMEONE READING THIS WHO HAS NEVER BEEN TO NEW ENGLAND WOULD NOT BE LOST IN GEOGRAPHIC LOCAL REFERENCES AT ALL. NOW I LOOK FORWARD TO HER NEXT BOOK!

Michelle McPhee is simply great

Michelle did a great job on the Entwistle case. I knew from her nightly talk show on WTKK in Boston that this book would profile all of the characters well. I hope Michelle writes more of this genre in the future.
