Book Overview

When a person looks back over his/her life, a time of reflection might follow to see if the memories the person had really impacted his/her life for better or worse. When author Rick Hunziker looks back on his own life, what he sees are stories that contributed to him becoming the man and child of God he is today. His new memoir, Heartland Raising: "Memoirs of an 'Average' Kid," combines family history with the author's personal stories to share with readers what life was like for Rick as a child, pre-teen, teenager, and young adult. Combined with three dozen photographs, the author describes times in his life that will make readers smile, laugh, and maybe even cry. What was most impactful for him was when, at the age of twenty-four and a half, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and he describes how God was directing him to this spiritual path all through his life. Rick also mentions about his family's frequent moves and how he met his future wife with whom he has two children and six grandchildren. Heartland Raising: "Memoirs of an 'Average' Kid" not only gives readers a glimpse into a life well lived and appreciated by the author, but also offers spiritual guidance to readers in realizing God cares for them. He credits many in the book for how they provided him love, encouragement, and lasting memories. Rick hopes readers of his memoir will find the stories enjoyable and heartfelt, causing them to also reflect back on memories from their own lives and share them with their loved ones. In view of current events, it is good to remember the times of your past that defined you. Rick Hunziker was raised in three heartland towns and earned a BSEE from Purdue University. He and his wife, Susan, have two sons and six grandchildren. After 32 years, he retired from the USAF in 1999 as the Electro-Optical Technology Division Chief, Sensors Directorate, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. In 2003 he was in the third class of inductees into the Electronic Warfare Hall of Fame. He and his wife live in Florida, but summer in Indiana. This is his first published book.
