The essence of Clint Eastwood

I grew up on Eastwood movies from his Cowboy era to Dirty Harry and beyond. I must say that this movie is as good in its own way as any of the previous ones. The story has been told many times over of a rough, tough, unconventional leader shaping up a ragtag misfit group into a cohesive force to be reckoned with. Many times, using unconventional or very conventional ways. Not only in the military field, but also in many other fields. So, it is more the delivery than the story that one would want to watch this movie for. Marine sergeant (Clint Eastwood), facing retirement and trying to cope with a failed marriage and ex-wife, is tasked with turning a ragtag bunch of individuals into Marines. He is hindered by self-glorification and self-credit-seeking individuals on all sides. If he fails, many will die. So will he succeed, and if so, at what cost?
