This book is a compilation of poetry, thoughts, hopes, prayers, and raps written by Naomi Marie over the course of 3 years. These pages are a reflection of internal and external struggles, stories, and are witness to her healing process. Over the 3 years that these works were created, Naomi went through separation and divorce, navigating single-motherhood, dating, situationships, relationships with friends, family and lovers, all the while processing and healing from trauma (in particular complex-post-traumatic-stress-disorder). There are also works that were written during the Covid-19 global pandemic.
These pages offer inspiration and hope to the reader. Naomi was able to overcome her circumstances and get to a place of thriving and living her best life. Naomi did not have a large or strong support system and often she struggled alone, she used writing as a way to organize and reflect her thoughts and feelings.
The people that are the subject of these written works are mostly anonymous, and names have either been omitted, changed or abbreviated, and in some cases given nicknames. These works are the product of pushing through pain, fears, rejection, solitude, and tears.
It is her hope that these works help others heal. She is rooting for everyone Black and Brown (because her feminism is intersectional). Some works in this book celebrate BIPOC experiences, Naomi identifies as a queer woman of color (Latina).
