It is a story of a life irrevocably altered, a testament to the human body and soul's capacity for resilience, and a saddening exploration of the profound impact of severe illness on an individual, their family, and their professional life.
As an architectural consultant, I have always found inspiration and purpose in all sorts of building interior, creating environments in the "medical world" bringing my touch of "Scandinavian" design both on commercial and residential property projects.
Ironically, the sterile, often impersonal environments of hospitals became my unexpected studio during years of treatment. The stark lines of hospital beds, the rhythmic beeping of machines, the antiseptic scent of disinfectant-all became elements in the complex design of my own survival.
What began as a terrifying loss of control in the water evolved into a cascade of devastating diagnoses: a previously undiagnosed significant heart defect requiring seven surgeries and procedures, the sudden bone marrow cancer diagnosis necessitating a life-saving transplant, and finally, the insidious onset of Parsonage-Turner Syndrome, resulting in paralysis in my upper extremities.
This book seeks to blend the raw, sometimes harrowing reality of my experiences with a reflection on the enduring power of the human body.
It's an attempt to translate the unreal emotions of fear, uncertainty, and despair into a story that offers hope and resonates with others who have navigated similar landscapes of illness.
