Those hardy and loving folk

A good first book (like all in this series)depicting the life and influence of two of the most irenic and lovable of French saints, Francis de Sales and Jeanne de Chantal. The only defect is the limited coverage given to the Salesians of Don Bosco,who work with street youth all over the world with singular dedication . (Im not an RC, but I resonant to the quakerly examples of these good folk). The book is clear and easy to read. Readers will recognize Wendy Wright from her Weavings articles over the years.

best salesian overview

This book presents Salesian spirituality clearly. It gives context for the tradition and traces it from its origins in Annecy to its Church-wide impact. The book gives great portraits of key people in the tradition---often using their own words to let the reader into the depths of their personalities. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
