Enlightens,entertains, energizes, and heals

This work of the "heart" was emtionally energetic for me. The authenticity of the characters as they are confronted with difficult life challenges,that could happen to anyone,creates a sense of intimacy with the reader. The element of suspense was intriguing and dynamic. His writing style is lucid and lovely.The profound insight of the author in understanding and describing the impact of a devastating illness on this couple, and all of their relationships, captured my interest. It is informative and educational, as he explores and offers to readers many possibilities of coping and healing.The inspirational theme of personal transformation through painful experiences, coupled with the healing power of love, was spiritually enlightening for me.This is a great selection for a book discussion group.

entertainment and education

This book is a beautiful mix of suspense and education. I struggled between wanting to rush through to the unpredictable end of this gripping story to wanting to slowly savor the valuable roadmap for dealing with a devastating illness. The characters could be anyone of us, and so you are taken in to the story in a very personal way. Everyone can learn something valuable from this book while being entertained by a mystery that will keep you in suspense until the last page.

Why Heart Shadows worked for me

I read Belzunce's Heart Shadows shortly after it came out. Two things grabbed me. One, he looked at breast cancer in the context of the family, especially the couple. Husbands/partners were guided on getting AND giving support. Much literature on this topic leaves partners in the wings. Second, his guidance, in the guise of advice from medical persons, made sense- get second opinions, find someone you can work with, whom you trust.I don't have breast cancer and I learned about taking charge of myself, trusting my intuition as a consumer.Belzunce's book captured me as a reader on another whole level. Within this book on breast cancer was a thriller subplot, woven into the fiber of the story. I got caught up in figuring out who the bad guy was and what would happen- just like in any thriller I read. This thriller subplot was for me an addition, not a distraction.So this book goes beyond self-help in the guise of a novel- an accomplishment already! It is self-help with a story beyond cancer which was of a "novel" nature.Read it, give it to those you love who are at any phase of living with breast cancer or even other cancers. This male writer writes on a topic often viewed as a woman's topic and does so with the sensitivity of a woman- which is high praise.

I hope you treat yourself to this gripping tale.
