Great first novel making readers aware of domestic violence
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 20 years ago
The ugly problem of domestic abuse is the subject of author, John Shiver's first novel, "Hear My Cry". The Haywoods are well thought of in their small Georgia community, pillars of the church, etc. What the community and fellow church members do not know is that Don Haywood is an abuser in his home. His anger and abuse are kept secret by his wife and children for a number of different reasons, one of which is that they don't think that others would believe them if told of his behavior. Shiver's characters are believable and the story is well written. The book gives insight as to why those who are abused stay in their situations rather than try to escape them. It is written in the Christian fiction genre and will benefit those who can identify with domestic abuse, and those who can not, but who want to have a better understanding of the subject.
