This book presents a small, but incredible collection of recipes I have collected from my mother and grandmother, both excellent cooks and bakers. I have chosen a cross section of what I consider to be both healthy and tasty dishes and desserts primarily from Eastern Europe. The Polish, Russian and Yiddish influences on the cooking of that part of the world have made for some incredibly good eating. I know from my upbringing and my extensive travels through all of those countries just how good the food can be. I have adjusted these recipes over the years since I do love to cook, and I have tweaked each to lower the amount of fat and cholesterol to make them healthier. I also have not included any red meat recipes, since I have found that by consuming fish and poultry in place of beef or pork, I personally feel healthier and younger. So here is to some really good eating with my healthy old world collection.
