Interesting take on religion/science

At last, an actually intelligent look at the conflicts and camaraderies of science and religion, without resorting to any of the conspiracy-mongering silliness of Dan Brown. "Healing Noelle" deals with the touchy subject of faith in the medical field, but only flirts with, and then dismisses, easy answers and out-and-out skepticism. While unbelievers may finish the book feeling a bit had (everyone ends up either dead or converted)they should be able to offer the book a grudging respect. Jonathan is a God-fearing young lad who seems to have the ability to miraculously heal others. Appropriately enough, he gets a job helping around at the local hospital. Noelle is his high school flame who's getting tangled in some strange going-ons about the city. It seems that the area's doctors are investing investing in Nanotechnology - which is to today's pop fiction what radioactivity was to the sixties - through some morally dubious means, a la 'The Constant Gardener.' The rest of the book weaves Jonathan's investigations into the hospital's slimy scam with his own doubts about whether or not God gives a rip about him. His conclusion might be foregone to the reader, but Huckabee deserves credit for making it an interesting ride to get there. "Healing Noelle" has a nicely limited scope, which makes the concept much easier to swallow. A certain amount of pretension is to be expected from so lofty a subject, not to mention a suspension of disbelief. Jonathan isn't the brightest crayon in the box and conventional authorities are mysteriously absent. Still, Huckabee isn't out to be the next, say, Graham Greene. Fans of Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker should be pleased. On every level, Amerians are wondering what happens when faith exits the private sphere and becomes a factor in public sectors - Huckabee has addressed the issue nicely via a page-turning read.

Healing Noelle

Wow! This book not only entertained me but challenged me to think about spiritual issues such as healing in a fresh way. It was my first introduction to nanotechnology and has made me want to learn more about this cutting edge technology. The author consistently reminds us that God is intricately working in our lives and is in even the small details. Don't miss this one; it was terrific.

I Couldn't Put it Down

I read Healing Noelle in one sitting... no joke. The plot moves so quickly it has you living it. Mike has done a fantastic job -- putting the reader right in the thick of controversy surrounding medical advancements and the will of God. Definite movie potential.
