Martin & Susan have written a book for all ages that teaches, touches, and uplifts. I laughed out loud over "Vulture Vomit" and several other stories....and I liked them even better since they are true! I learned so much about rehabilitating injured wildlife and my respect for these beautiful creatures and those who help them has grown immensely. I also learned how hard it is to train a bird for falconry but I am so thankful for the knowledge I gained. This book is written for those of us who know little of falconry and rehabilitation, but with the wonderful experiences the authors share it is an enjoyable read for anyone. Martin has come to the Cedar City Public Library several times and presented a riveting program for story time with over 100 children and parents present. It is a rare thing for a children's librarian to see that many young people sitting absolutely still and quiet, but when Martin is teaching about taking care of these beautiful birds & all in attendance know he has something big in the covered cage next to him, it is truly as quiet as a library! Then when he brings out Scout the air fills with gasps of wonder...and memories are made. He relates so well with the children and patiently answers questions from all ages. This book is like visiting with him & Susan. Susan has also contributed so beautifully to this book. Her insight and honesty are endearing, and her patience is amazing! They both write in an easy to read manner, and they both made me chuckle! I also went through several tissues as they told of some of their experiences in helping the healing process in many lives. This book will open many subjects for discussion in a gentle way, and also introduce some beautiful teachings of the Native People that will help us all. I HIGHLY recommend this book to all libraries, and to all who want to learn or teach about some of the fascinating creatures we share this earth with. It is also great for gifts! This review was written by Larry's wife, Crystal, who adds that this book is on her list of all time favorites!
Charming stories

This is an informative little book about birds of prey and other animals rehabilitated by the authors. They live for the animals in their care and it shows in the stories. Yet, it is also about overcoming dyslexia and finding solace in hunting with a well trained eagle on a gauntlet, educating children about nature, and raising awareness about these beautiful birds. I laughed and I cried, and reccomend it as light reading on a plane, waiting for an appointment, etc. Money raised from the sale will go to the Southwest Wildlife Foundation, for erecting an educational building and more rehab facilities. Well worth it!
Truly...A Healer of Angels

I will never forget that cold autumn day when Martin Tyner gave me my first introduction to the sport of falconry. That was 9 years ago, and I've been addicted ever since! Needless to say, I was delighted when I found Martin and Susan's book at a local bookstore. This book is a must read for anyone interested in falconry, birds of prey, or the conservation of wildlife. As an elementary school teacher, I have seen several of Mr. Tyner's unforgettable presentations and his passion for birds of prey is evident. Ironically, several weeks after reading "Healer of Angels," my Harris Hawk was intentionally shot by two hunters while she was perching in a nearby tree. I frantically called Mr. Tyner, and he calmly gave me sound advice on how to take care of my hawk until she could be taken to the local veterinarian. Mr. Tyner's book would be a wonderful addition to any library. He is truly a Healer of Angels...
An American Success/love Story

You do not have to be a lover of wildlife, care about birds of prey, or even have an interest in falconry or animals at all to thoroughly enjoy Healer of Angels, the new book by Martin and Susan Tyner. For in this book lies the very heart-felt tale of a dyslexic child who wanted nothing more than to be a falconer from a very early age. Martin Tyner has managed to outline a life in bird and animal care with a series of short stories of his many experiences in a way that can be easily understood by any age group. Yet the book is not so simple as to make an adult disinterested, and the writing is simple and exciting enough to keep the grade-schooler enthralled and want to learn more about this man and his quest to be able to make birds his life. The pictures alone are enough to peak anyone's interest. And that is also why it should be in every school library in the country. The founder of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation in southern Utah, along with his wife have integrated these stories in a fascinating and loving way - their stories will truly make you weep with joy, cry with sorrow and laugh with excitement and you will not want to put it down. But if you do, you can pick up right where you left off - as if you never stopped reading. Martin Tyner has dedicated his life to the rehabilitation and release of birds of prey and was the first man in the United States to legally acquire an eagle for falconry. His story of his beloved golden eagle Bud will break your heart and make you weep for joy, all at the same time. The beauty of this 160 page book is that it is a testament to what a man can do if he really sets his mind to it. Martin's determination along with the loving help of his wife Susan is truly an American success/love story and Healer of Angels is a great companion piece to any of Martin's many speaking engagements. Whether it is at a rehabilitated bird release event, a Boy Scout Court of Honor ceremony or simply a one-on-one chat with this amazing man, it'll be a book you'll want to read time and time again - just to remember and visualize him telling the story. My hope is that it stirs up enough interest to get the funding Martin and Susan Tyner and the Southwest Wildlife Foundation require to build the facilities that are much needed for this worthwhile organization. Once you read Healer of Angels, you'll hope so too.
The world needs more of this

Susan and Martin Tyner spoke at our community center with Scout the eagle, Thumper the harris hawk and a baby prarie falcon. Their love for the birds is infectious and their stories of overcomming adversity open up your heart to a world full of hope. This is easy to read, 8 year olds to 80 year olds will like it. The color pictures of all the wildlife they have worked with are beautiful, not only the birds, but many others such as coyotes, prarie dogs and rabbits. Thanks for all your deeds Martin and Susan, Rob Snyder Manager, Springdale Library Springdale Utah
