This book is a collection of anecdotes of a very unusual man, Max L Polin. He came from an extremely humble background and built a business that anyone would be proud of. As a young man, knowing he could not afford an education, he enlisted in the Army Air Force before the Second World War began. He became a prisoner of war for two years and was imprisoned in the camp portrayed in the movie "The Great Escape" This book also chronicles his recollections of his time in the prison camp. After the war ended, he attended and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in hopes of studying law. However, he was enticed by the promise of making better money faster in business, giving him more time for his true interest, which was thoroughbred racing. Eventually, he was successful in business and as a breeder and owner of thoroughbred racehorses. He did all this not for the money but for the excitement of success. I remember him for all these qualities, but above all, I remember him as a great teacher and loving father.
