Derived from the classic children's poem, this version celebrates the beautiful islands of Hawaii and the traditions of the locals. It began as a part of Pelican's Night Before Christmas series.
Majestic sea turtles (honu) guide Santa (Kanakaloka) on his magical Christmas Eve journey to the shimmering shores of the Hawaiian paradise. Santa dressed in a malo, large slippers (kama 'a nui), and leis. He was welcomed to the house (hale) by Mama and Papa. Ornaments placed on their decorated coconut tree whisper to Santa what to bring each child (keiki). He placed their gifts under the tree and in the woven baskets (lauhala), enjoyed the delicious (ono) treats of macadamia nut cookies and coconut milk, and bid Mama and Papa goodbye (aloha) before surfing on to the next hale.
