Like most of his fellow students, Rick Gentry enrolled in Haven Hill College and believed here in this quaint little village, they would be safe from the realities and temptations of the real world, but through a series of incidents, Rick and his friends learn that in this world, there is no safe place. When the hardscrabble Crater family arrives from Missouri, daughter Rosalie enrolls in Haven Hill in an attempt to turn her troubled life around while her father takes a job with the college maintenance crew. While risking his reputation, Rick makes a noble effort to mentor Rosalie and help her learn to navigate her way through Haven Hill's loving but sometimes snobbish campus culture. As the school year comes to a close, the annual Founder's Day ceremony sheds new light as four of his classmates have an opportunity to speak. As the four elected students tell their stories, Rick comes to realize that he is indeed witnessing miracles.
