This amazing book is enjoyed from around the world.

This wonderfully witty and well-written book has been enjoyed by me and my friends from around the world - including Canadians and Americans to Australians and South Africans. We all learned and laughed from reading James and Kenji's experiences - which goes to show that this book has hit on a common thread in all of us - wanting to taste good wine and to enjoy The Good Life.

At Last

As an amateur wine maker - press, barrels, fancy filter, etc. - for the past 30 years, I've always found wine books precious and pretentious. After all, 90% of the world's wines are drunk in the first year they are made, so all this fussiness, this "barnyard with a hint of mellon," this "89 points" has struck me as stetching things. That is, until I read this book. I bought it because I wondered what two youngsters might have to teach a very old codger what to think about something that mattered to him, the qualities of wine. Well, the truth is, quite a lot. I loved their enthusiasm and their down-to-earth knowledge. That's the surprising thing - they know a lot, and are clear and compelling about what they know, without being ARCH or supercillious. I can't think of a better book to give budding wine drinkers - it's approachable, interesting, and detailed enough to be consulted well after the person you have gifted knows the difference between an ordinary burgundy and one which needs to be opened to a cascade of trumpets. It's even a good choice for an old wine-codger.

Finally, a wine book that has it all for us novices!

The authors did a great job giving me the information that I felt I needed to choose proper wines. And I learned a lot about how wines differ, not only by the varity of grapes, but by the location of the vineyards. The authors are humerous and knowledgable about all aspects of wine. It was not only a great read, but a book I will keep handy for future reference. I plan on giving this book to many of my friends for Christmas.
