THE VILLAGEHigh in the High Hatteras Mountains of the High Country is a remarkable little village called Hatsoff. The residents of Hatsoff have lived a quiet secluded life for generations and, apart from the occasional deliveries from their nearest neighbours in Hatteras City, the good folk of Hatsoff meet very few outsiders, but go about their daily business in a happy and contented manner.Nothing about Hatsoff is unusual. It has a fine school for the twenty or so children of the village, a small factory that employs most of the good people of Hatsoff, a bank, a restaurant, an excellent library and a good selection of shops and stores. It has its own Town Hall situated next to the Fire Station, a lovely old church, which is full to the brim on Sunday's, and it even has a small airport.Possibly the one thing that could be said to make Hatsoff different from most villages in the vicinity is that the residents of Hatsoff are all HATS. Yes, Hats. They are a short people with short arms and short legs. They are generally a happy and contented group of people always with a ready smile and a helping hand. They just happen to be Hats.
