Harusi [Swahili]

Vigelegele, vifijo na cherekochereko za kina mama wakiimba mamie mwana so ukaule mgeni kengia ndizo zinazokamilisha kilele cha harusi ya Rahman, mtoto wa Alhaj Mwinyi Karim kwa Shufaa binti wa Mwinyi Sitaki Shari. Hakuna kinachokosekana siku hiyo. Fahari yote na utajiri wa Alhaj Karim ulitengwa kukamilisha ndoa hiyo ili iwe harusi ya kusimuliwa. Ama kweli watu waliohudhuria walifurahi na kukubaliana kuwa, Rahman bin Mwinyi kapata; sio kama kakaye, Dakta Mustafa, ambaye hakuafikiana na wazazi wake kwenye kuchagua mke.

Lakini ni kweli kwamba Rahman kapata mke "mtoto wa watu" au ni kama mkwezi mmoja kwenye karamu kubwa ya maulid ya harusi anavyojibu kwa dharau, "harusi za siku hizi harusi?"

Harusi si riwaya tu bali ni kielelezo cha mila na desturi za jamii ya watu wa mwambao wa pwani ya Afrika Mashariki. Ni wazi kuwa wasomaji wengi watafurahiwa na riwaya hii.

The cries, shouts and laughter of mothers singing mamie mwana so ukaule gengi kengia are the climax of the wedding of Rahman, the son of Alhaj Mwinyi Karim, to Shufaa, the daughter of Mwinyi Sitaki Shari. Nothing is missing on that day. All the glory and wealth of Alhaj Karim was set aside to complete the marriage so that it would be a wedding to be told. Indeed, the people who attended were happy and agreed that, Rahman bin Mwinyi got it; not like his brother, Dr. Mustafa, who did not agree with his parents in choosing a wife. But is it true that Rahman got a wife "the son of the people" or is it like one traveler at a large wedding birthday party responds with disdain, "weddings of today, weddings?" Weddings is not just a novel but an example of the customs and traditions of the people of the East African coastal community. It is clear that many readers will enjoy this novel. Abdallah J.
