Billy Joel's 1976 rendition, A NEW YORK STATE of MIND, was an anthem to life in New York City. Our "roots and wings*" were formed at the other end of the Empire State. We were fortunate to be raised and mentored by what Tom Brokaw justifiably named "The Greatest Generation." They grew up during the Great Depression, endured the hardships of World War II, and the Korean conflict while creating a "unique culture" in the far Southwestern corner of New York State. Serendipitously, we were all drawn to a celebratory community event in 2012 where we discovered our shared appreciation for people and experiences of the MidTwentieth Century. Though we share many commonalities with other New Yorkers, we recognize the uniqueness of growing up in the Harmony/North Harmony townships of Southwestern New York in our time. We hope that you will enjoy our work and that you will be inspired to recall and perhaps write your own accounts of your unique neighborhoods in your time
