The story brings together humor, drama, and history. In the second book of a series, Ezekial McNair continues the story of his life to his great, great granddaughter and great, great, grandniece. In this book he tells of training with the cavalry and the first confrontations with the enemy as a cavalry officer. He tells of the horror of war he experienced in skirmishing and battles at Fort Donelson and the Nashville campaign. There is also humor as he recounts adventures of soldiers trying to survive with inadequate food and under harsh conditions.
