Engaging, smoothly crafted.

After serving a stiff sentence in State Prison for armed robbery, Glenn Odom decides he's learned his lesson and resolves to go straight, forsaking his career as a professional thief. But there's one thing he didn't count on. Darleen, his ex-wife and a thief in her own right, decides to perpetrate a very unwise blackmail scheme. When the scheme backfires on her, she enlists Glenn's help to prevent her from winding up dead. Hard Guy is a very engaging crime novel told from the criminals' perspective. Its third person narrative unfolds in a remarkably direct and straightforward manner. As Glenn goes about the business of extricating Darleen from a potentially fatal hornet's nest of her own making, he's required to break a number of laws, thereby risking a return to prison. Author Thornton Elliott has written this book using authentic sounding descriptions of the Tennessee countryside in which it takes place. The characters are all quite interesting and thoroughly believable. The plot evolves smoothly and features a number of very engaging elements skillfully crafted to enhance the reader's enjoyment. Hard Guy is a very rewarding, fun read. Highly recommended.
