Great Read Aloud Reader for second graders in a classroom or at home

I am homeschooling and using Harcourt for first grade next year. I ordered the first grade book to go along with my language arts set. I liked it so well that I ordered this book as well. This book is a collection of poems and stories to be read a loud to children in the classroom, but it would work great for bedtime reading as well. Many of the stories are stories your child will likely have heard before--but I think that's a very good thing. One of the skills that young children have to learn is how to picture a story and imagine it in their heads. The stories and poems in this book are great for helping a child develop that skill, because if children are familiar with the story, they can practice picturing it in their heads. The kindergarten book has a few more pictures and no comprehension questions--it is simply meant to be read and enjoyed. The first grade book introduces the child to reading comprehension questions. The second grade book does the same as the first, but also chooses grade appropriate texts, while repeating a few from the year before. The questions are written in the text for the teacher or for the parent to ask the child. I like the selections included a lot and I am looking forward to reading this with my daughter!
