When I was younger, I read about this Chinese folklore, which was about an invincible red string of fate. This string is tied to your pinky finger, so it follows you wherever you go. It never breaks or gets tangled up. Now, the other end of the string is attached to "the" person. The person that you would spend the rest of your life with. Eventually, the distance between you and that person will become smaller and smaller as you get closer and closer together. That supposed person is your soulmate, a fixed destiny waiting for you at the other end. Movies, books, and shows make you believe that finding true love and a happily ever after is real. We cling to this because it gives us a sense of hope that we are capable of love and finding that person; a person we could happily spend the rest of our life with. But, what happens after? That's where things get ugly--the unspeakable truth that happily ever after does not exist...
