This volume continues a re-orientation of research on Hans Fallada, motivated by activities of the International Hans Fallada Forum. The objective thereby is a more consistent positioning of an author who for a long time remained at the periphery of academic interest. On the basis of the re-evaluation of New Objectivity, Fallada's associations with modern literature between Expressionism and New Objectivity are not only touched upon but made the main focus of the analysis. Against this background, it also becomes possible to access texts by Hans Fallada, narratologically more concisely. Further depth is given to the volume by two conversations with contemporary witnesses. Klaus Jorn, for many years chief dramatic adviser for East German TV, talks about the mechanisms behind film adaptations of Fallada's works in the East German cultural sector. Against the background of his new production of Fallada's novel Kleiner Mann was nun? (Little Man, What Now?) at the Regional Theatre in Neustrelitz, the renowned director Alexander Stillmark explains why Fallada is still appealing for the stage today. German text.
