I have used this book for an intro. course and found it to be a reasonable beginner book. Medical Informatics is a broad topic to say the least, and any book attempting to summarize it will suffer from the task. This book is slightly dated, but has a helpful web site. If you want a broad exposure to MI then this is not a bad place to start.

This book not only covers all of the varied and important topics in Medical Informatics, it does so in a unique way using the conventions of the Internet. Key words appear in blue and are underlined. These words not only appear in the index, but the authors maintain a server where these references point to URLs with the latest updated information on the topic cited. Thus the book is an expert source to material far beyond what can be contained within its own pages.A tour de force!Thomas L.
