Nineteen fact-filled chapters that contain authoritative treatment of all aspects of dimensional measurement technology make Handbook of Dimensional Measurement the most readable and comprehensive guide available for engineers and technicians engaged in the various stages of industrial production. Design engineers, manufacturing engineers, tool and gage makers, quality control specialists, and reliability experts will find its wealth of practical data unmatched by any other reference.
I am a field machinist / industrial mechanic. I fabricate parts in machine shops, I install and align different machine parts. I also maintain machine parts by checking parts to dimension tolerances. The 4th edition (2007) of this book I bought to stay current with modern tools as the tools during my apprenticeship from over 25 years ago have changed since then. I appreciate very much the explanations of the different tool types and the advantages and disadvantages of the different tool types. This book shows most of the tool types currently commercially available (and company names on the pictures is helpful too). Of course some rare custom made tools are not shown or some rare newer tool types. But compared to other books on measuring gages this is the best book I have every seen on the subject. I highly recommend it.
An excellent reference book.....

This book has saved my bacon in disputes with customers. It is highly technical, but is intended for technicians and engineers. If you are not ready to understand the concepts, this is not for you. However, if you are a technical/professional type, by all means get this book. You will not regret it.
Excellent Reference

The best reference I have reviewed for dimensional metrology principals. It does not cover the latest equipment, but it does provide excellent in-depth discussion of basic principals and theory of operation.
