The Handbook of Counseling Supervision was one of the very first books describing the teaching of psychotherapy. Among the most popular graduate school texts for more than 20 years, it is now out of date and out of print. The book contributed to a movement in the 1980's to make the teaching of psychotherapy less parochial and idiosyncratic, giving rise to corollary events such as the creation of national standards for psychotherapy supervision and the requirement for supervision coursework and experience among accredited doctoral programs. Its primary value now is historical, perhaps for students pursuing a dissertation about psychotherapy supervision. The book has been supplanted by another text, now in its 4th edition, titled Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision (Bernard & Goodyear, 2008). signed by coauthor George Leddick, PhD
