Good for professors

At the time of this writing, I am involved in project addressing the special needs of blind students in learning statistical concepts. With the assistance of a reference librarian, I discovered Ware and Brewer's work entitled HANDBOOK FOR TEACHING STATISTICS AND RESEARCH METHODS. It includes 88 chapters divided into the following sections: Section I 1) Reducing Students' Fears 2) Evaluating Strategies 3) Illustrating Statistical Techniques 4) Generating Data Sets 5) Discussing Additional Issues Section II 6) Evaluating Ethical Issues 7) Designing the Course 8) Reviewing the Literature 9) Implementing Teaching Strategies 10) Using Computers 11) Stimulating Scholarly Activity 12) Promoting Scholarly Presentation 13) Directing Theses and Dissertation All of chapters within these sections are short, well-writing and provide practical information that will enhance one's ability to rely information to college students. I can make two points that will help the potential buyer: First, although the term "research methods" is included in the title, Ware and Brewer's work is more about statistics and addresses very little regarding research methods. However, the emphasis on statistics rather than research methods is an asset rather than a liability. I've taught research methods since 1982 and statistics since 1995. Statistics is much more difficult to teach! Second, as stated earlier, I purchased this monograph because of a literature search. The computer search indicated that there was material within the volume that addresses teaching techniques suited for blind students. Well, I can find this material. Nevertheless, the book is very useful and I recommend it.
