Samuel comes of age in a small White Mountain New Hampshire town just before the start of World War I. Nestled along side Mount Washington the small town is robust with activity during the heyday of passenger train transportation. It is here where Samuel learns about the people in his town and those who visit, growing up in his family's large hotel that overlooks the iconic New England landscape. Finding interest in writing in his journal he learns that his young life is defined by the importance of those around him as well as the first love that came sashaying across the bridge one summer afternoon. Little did he know then, but that chance meeting would become not only his salvation but the very epicenter of his life.
Following Samuel through the struggles of the war in Europe, and after the war, we learn that sometimes, as much as we might want adventure and travel, what we ultimately eventually yearn for are the familiarities of a place you called home during childhood, and that still pulls at your heart.
Hand in Hand tells the story of family love, first loves, and loves that last a life time, through the joys and wonder but also the pains and loss.
