Poetry. "Tim Seibles' version of our changing and growing American speech range widely, from anguish to comedy, from transcendence to earthly bewilderment. The joy of reading these poems is like overhearing a very smart, crazy neighbor's thoughts as they move between philosophical inquiry and praise for the everyday"--Li-Young Lee.

Poetry is not dead after all

After hearing Mr. Seibles read some of his poetry at my college, I knew I had to get one of his books. This was it, and it turned out to be the best new poetry I've read in awhile. Unlike other prominent modern poets who happen to belong to racial minorities, Seibles doesn't try to portray the world from a specific point of view based on his personal experiences as a black man. Instead he uses references from all of the pop culture of the last 30 years or so to write about things that everyone can relate to. The end result is a wonderful collection that shows that even today valid poetry can be extracted from the mundane.
