A well written autobiography of the career of the man who has been known by many as the toughest Gam

Halt! I'm a Federal Game Warden is not a run of the mill autobiography. Willie J Parker is as skilled at writing as he was at enforcing the law. The story spans Parker's career in law enforcement from the late 1950's to the late 1970's. The story is well paced and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Many people do not consider the work of a Game Warden being comparable to that of what is considered true police officers. In most instances Game Wardens are fully commissioned police officers before they are even considered for duty as wardens. Parker takes us with him on nightime raids of poaching rings and market gunners. One thing that is often not considered by those who don't understand the occupation is that confrontations in the hunting field are nearly always with armed individuals. Willie Parker tells how he was able to deal with many of these individuals who were often hard working law abiding citizens when not involved in game poaching activities. Though he was not an imposing figure in physical stature he more than made up for his small stature in psychology. He was able to avoid most violent confrontations by using his wits rather than brawn. He was also compassionate and tempered his law enforcement skills with good judgement. This is a true story, but it is also an action story. It will give the reader a sense of appreciation for the men and women who devote long hours afield, sometimes in the harshest of conditions to help ensure that healthy populations of all wildlife species will remain for future generations to enjoy. This is an outstanding write and well worth reading for anyone interested in the outdoors and game conservation.

Willie Parkers stories are true to life and exciting. Easy to read and keeps you on the edge of your seat. An excellent book for anyone w/the slightest interest in the outdoors and wildlife.

A true insight

Parker is candid in his duties and leaves no detail out. At times, the stories he tells left me angry and other times they left me crying. You can tell the true dedication to his job in this book. A must read for any one in wildlife or law enforcement.
